Summerpick #3: La La Lavie!

I recently got a chance to collaborate with Lavie for their SS15 collection. In keeping with the season, the collection boasts of bags in vibrant colors, available in a variety of shapes and sizes. My pick? This lovely yellow sling that goes oh-so-perfectly well with just about any outfit!

Color-block your way to create a playful-yet-chic ensemble or spruce up an all white look. I took a slightly different, experimental route while styling three looks that go with this beautiful bag. Read on.

The Theme: Photosynthesis

Look 1: X x Y
My first look is inspired from the synthesis bit, putting together all-out girly elements with hints of androgyny.

Look 2: Chlorophyllacious
Here's a look that celebrates the whole process of light passing through and conversion into energy for survival.

Look 3: Full Bloom
The third and last look is all about the outcome of photosynthesis...the creation of this bundlof energy, on which, live thrives.

Wedding Wear Trendpick from Diwali

It's been over a week now, but I'm still not over the festival of sparkle, fairy lights and fashion. Diwali left us with some cool trends we could now use to stand out during the wedding season.

Trend #1: Blue and White + Silver

Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
We've seen it on toile de jouy fabric, and willow patterned and wedgewood china crockery. And don't we just love the striking contrast between the two colors? This wedding season, add in chunky silver jewellery from your granny's closet and go desi chic with the blue and white trend.

Style tip- With the shade of blue, don't stick to the standard ;)

Trend #2: Spicy Red

Red is bold. Red is beautiful. Whatever you wear for your yaar ki shaadi, don't forget to glam up with a dash of red!

Style tip- The norm is to paint your lips bold, but try on the color on accessories for a change. ;)

Trend #3: Simmer in Shimmer

Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
Diwali has always been the festival of all things sparkly and blingy. Big fat Indian weddings are not far behind, and to add to it the current season. It's the perfect time to go get your shimmery clothes, shoes and accessories out from the closet.

Style tip- Don't go too loud on shimmer just yet. Combine your colored solids with little shimmery pieces in gold, silver or pastels. :)

Trend #4: Go Royal
Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakka
But don't go overboard. Make your look elegant and rich-looking, but definitely not over-the-top. In fact, if you want to do royal right, think minimalistic but classy, with statement pieces. Go in for polkis, kundan or even pearls to really nail it.

Style tip- Let your jewellery do the talking. Opt for a plain saree with a broad border, a statement ring and earrings, and you're good to go! :)

Trend #5: Ditch the Dupatta
Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
I'm all in for a no-fuss look, especially at weddings. Here's a little inspiration for a dupatta-less ensemble.

Style tip- An embroidered shrug/bolero. A shimmery crop top. A lehenga. And that's how you do drop dread gorgeous! ;)

That's all for now. Until next time!

Valentine's Day Countdown # 4 - The Dinner Date

Hey all,

Here's the second one from my Valentine's Day Countdown series. Incase you missed the first, click here.

Today's date pick- The dinner date
Could be by the waves, on a rooftop, by the beach or indoors, you know you'll dress to kill. But what about your hairdo? The safest bet, first, is to decide on that. Since it's a dinner date, it's got to be an evening look- an updo should work like magic!

If you want your face to look thinner and longer, tie your hair low, leaving the bangs loose. Try one of these-

What would go best with this look-
- Danglers...let long earrings be your only accessories. If it's too little for you, maybe a cuff to go, but avoid a neckpiece.

- Highlight your eyes with a slick, winged liner or go smokey-eyed while keeping the lips subtle with a nudish lipcolour and gloss to glam it up a bit.
- Go extreme, either a tube jumpsuit (something in a lighter fabric like chiffon would really look classy!) or a full-sleeved short dress. The idea is, either your arms showing or your legs, not both.

For those with a sculpted face, tie your hair high leaving very little or no hair loose. It'll only enhance your cheek bones and jawline.

What goes with this look-
- Go in for a no-earring look or opt for studs and a statement neckpiece.
- For your eyes, enhance them with just a thin stroke of liner and mascara. Go bold on your lips instead.
- Depending on your body type, choose a dress or a jumpsuit. Avoid anything too flared.

Whatever you put together, let it not be too understated. However, do keep in mind, simpler is classier!

Until next time!

Tic Tac Oh!

Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
We've all experienced that moment when we pick out the perfect pair of tic-tacs to go with our outfit for the day, and DAYUM! The paint on them has chipped off! Not to worry, here's a quick-fix tutorial on how to get them sparkling new in as little as under 5 minutes!    You read right, under 5 MINUTES!!!

Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
What you'll need

- Old pair of tic-tacs
- Nail paint
- Nail file
- Acrylic sealer/ Spray-on Varnish/ Clear nail paint- top coat  (Optional)

1) Getting started:

Before you start working on the tic-tacs, make sure the surface is smooth. For this purpose, I used a nail file to rub off the remaining part of the chipped paint. Keep scrubbing the surface until all the paint is off and the surface is smooth.

Finally, dust off the remains, and if need be, wipe clean the tic-tacs. Et voila, your tic-tacs are now ready for a makeover!
Time taken: 1 min- 1 min 30 secs.

2) Paint my love:
Pick a colour that suits your taste, or one that goes with your outfit. You may alternately choose to go in for a glittery silver, gold or bronze nail paint. Now simply paint your love(ly) tic-tacs- just a coat or two. Avoid applying too many coats as it may peel off easily.
Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
Time taken: 1 min + 1 min for drying.
3) Finishing touch:
Once the nail paint has dried, add a finish to the newly painted tic-tacs with a coat of spray-on varnish or an acrylic sealer. If you don't have either, worry not, use a top coat (clear nail paint) instead. This step is optional, but recommended, as it adds a protective layer onto the nail paint.
Time taken: 10- 20 secs. Now leave it on newspaper to dry. It shouldn't take more than a minute to dry.
My record time Step 1 in 20 secs + Step 2 in 1 min 10 secs + Step 3 in 1 min 10 secs = 2 min 40 secs!

Launch: Lifestyle AW'13 Collection + MTV's Get the Look Season 3

Lifestyle partnered with MTV for the launch of a new season of the channel's Get the Look show at their Phoenix Mills store at Lower Parel. They came up with a fun and engaging activity wherein invitees were to go through Lifestyle's AW '13 collection, pick their favourite pieces to put together a look, get a touch-up at the L'Oreal Hair & Make-up Booth, and head to the Photo Booth to show off their looks in front of the shutterbugs.

What's more? MTV VJ Anusha Dandekar went around going through each look, suggesting what could have been added or avoided, and tagging it to a city- mine was London!

Finally, she picked two of her favourite looks, and the lucky girls won a shopping spree at the Lifestyle store.

Anusha came dressed, chic as always, in an Aztec print skirt, a ruffled top- both from the AW '13 collection at Lifestyle. She kept her look minimally accessorized.

The winning looks were very American- reminded Anusha of NYC and LA respectively.

And now talking of the AW '13 collection at Lifestyle, girls, you're going to LOVE the variety of interesting prints they have to boast of- be it Autumn Florals, Aztec or Animal Print, there's something for everyone! Now go, splurge!

Until next time!

Chic-recyclers Part 1: Accessories

I happened to read an article on Miss Malini's blog about being 'chiconomical', i.e. being chic while being economical, and thought of coming up with a post (or series of posts) on wardrobe recyclers that are economical yet fashionable.

Here's the link to her post...
http://www.missmalini.com/2012/06/20/are-you-chiconomical/

In her post she shows us the example of la belle Duchess of Cambridge and her creative recyclers. And yes, she DOES add the chic in economical!
This brings me to mention how a lot of us shy away from doing a repeat, especially on occasions. Recycling isn't synonymous to anti-fashion, rather, isn't it more creative to repeat an outfit without it looking the same as when worn previously?

I second Malini when she says 'Accessorize!'. Oh yes, accessories can make or break an outfit, and can completely change the look.

Take a basic white dress for example. The dress by itself with maybe just a clutch and a neck piece makes for a good brunch outfit. Now, glamoufy that by simply tying a satin sash around the waist, and say adding some red to your lips and flouncing those lashes with some long lash mascara! Dainty little woman to Diva, eh? And that too in less than a minute! That's the power of accessories!
