POTD #7- Feeling ChristMissy?

Finally, it's Christmas eve! For today's POTD, I thought of picking something that sings with the spirit, and still, is not in-your-face Christmassy!
Red, white and green are the colours of this beautiful festive season. We'd normally team the whites with pastels or the greens with metallics to add that holiday spirit. But for a change, why not team up a green or a red with black for a cold, dark, winter feel (no cold, dark winters for us Mumbaikars :( )

During this season, I personally like the former (with some shimmer), but here's a no-accessories, cold, dark winter look that I absolutely LOVE!

POTD #6 - Casual Fridays Look

Hey all,
Here's what caught my attention on a Casual Friday at work...the classic combination of  checks, denims and Converse! Since I grew up being heavily influenced by my brother, and tomboyish for a long time, naturally, comfort clothing is my all-time favourite! To me, fashion is comfort + glam in an 80:20 ratio.

What I LOVE about this look is that it's so easy, yet the tartan checks, the matching footwear (and blue denim, to break the monotony!) make it very stylish!

Try experimenting a little with accessories as well...

With a Neck Piece
If you plan on wearing a basic statement neck piece, make sure to leave the first two buttons open as the collar and the neck piece might look like there's too much happening there. A better way to wear it would be with the collar folded inward.

With a Cuff
Fold up the sleeves to just above the elbow and team it up with a non-blingy cuff.

With a Bracelet
Roll up your sleeve just a couple inches. Charmed bracelets work like a charm, except if you're in a pure, corporate environment, in which case you should stick to delicate pieces as much as possible.

With Earrings
Depending on where you work, choose between hoops and cutesy studs. Avoid danglers or tops.

That's all for now. Until next time!

Fashion transition

So we've crossed the peak of summer and the season of romance has culminated into a couple of not-so-pleasant, sweaty weeks before winter finally takes over. How I love winters in Mumbai! I know, I know, the winters here aren't knee-high-boots-friendly, but nevermind about that!

Getting back to the transitional months, there's always fashion to help us get through the slow drifting of weather ;) Dresses, anyone?

So here's a look that caught my attention, and I think it's a perfect October do! The dress is short, fuss-free and accessories, full of summery frolic! Plus the dark blue brings in the (soon-to-come) winter tone ;) I absolutely LOVE it!

The MAX factor

Landmark Group's Value Fashion Brand, MAX, launched their Winter Festive '13 Collection on Friday. The launch took place at Phoenix Market City, Kurla, with daily soap stars Siddharth Shukla and Toral Rasputra. The festive collection, which includes both an ethnic range, as well as western outfits, was unveiled through a glitzy fashion show.

The ethnic collection was inspired by the rich, vibrant colours of Marrakesh and boasted of ornate prints and embellishments in patterns made with sequins. But what I personally liked the most were the bottoms in their western wear range- Jeggings in Tartan checks (See image: Third from left) and little metallic detailings (See image: Second from right)

Tic Tac Oh!

Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
We've all experienced that moment when we pick out the perfect pair of tic-tacs to go with our outfit for the day, and DAYUM! The paint on them has chipped off! Not to worry, here's a quick-fix tutorial on how to get them sparkling new in as little as under 5 minutes!    You read right, under 5 MINUTES!!!

Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
What you'll need

- Old pair of tic-tacs
- Nail paint
- Nail file
- Acrylic sealer/ Spray-on Varnish/ Clear nail paint- top coat  (Optional)

1) Getting started:

Before you start working on the tic-tacs, make sure the surface is smooth. For this purpose, I used a nail file to rub off the remaining part of the chipped paint. Keep scrubbing the surface until all the paint is off and the surface is smooth.

Finally, dust off the remains, and if need be, wipe clean the tic-tacs. Et voila, your tic-tacs are now ready for a makeover!
Time taken: 1 min- 1 min 30 secs.

2) Paint my love:
Pick a colour that suits your taste, or one that goes with your outfit. You may alternately choose to go in for a glittery silver, gold or bronze nail paint. Now simply paint your love(ly) tic-tacs- just a coat or two. Avoid applying too many coats as it may peel off easily.
Copyright © 2014 Dhaara Thakkar
Time taken: 1 min + 1 min for drying.
3) Finishing touch:
Once the nail paint has dried, add a finish to the newly painted tic-tacs with a coat of spray-on varnish or an acrylic sealer. If you don't have either, worry not, use a top coat (clear nail paint) instead. This step is optional, but recommended, as it adds a protective layer onto the nail paint.
Time taken: 10- 20 secs. Now leave it on newspaper to dry. It shouldn't take more than a minute to dry.
My record time Step 1 in 20 secs + Step 2 in 1 min 10 secs + Step 3 in 1 min 10 secs = 2 min 40 secs!

MissMalini's Mega Haul: Why I love blogging!

Hey all,

We all follow MissMalini, and we absolutely LOVE how she's always among the first to bring to us any new Fashion, Bollywood or Lifestyle related! And now, ladies, she has announced a Mega Haul Contest on her website. Aren't we excited? So here's my entry-

Why I love blogging!

A lot of us blog for various reasons- for some, it's more of an e-diary, some others use it as a platform to showcase their literary skills or knowledge about a certain industry they are a part of, while some others use it as a marketing platform.

For me too, it is a platform- a more personal one- where I can write about fashion, trends, events that I feel are talk-of-the-town worthy. What I love about blogging is that one can talk about what interests us, you can have strongly opinionated articles, and they don’t get lost like on other social media platforms. It’s very much like articles published on websites, only that this is much more personal- people can connect with the blogger better and easier than with other writers and authors. You definitely want to engage your audience- I’ve had people read my blog and personally get in touch with me saying things like ‘I read your last post and…’ and it builds into a conversation- a discussion often culminating into concepts and ideas that help us both- the blogger as well as the reader.

What’s more? Blogs also sometimes act as handbooks. There are so many of us who look up blogs for ideas on DIY’s or the latest trends or advice on where to shop from. Wondering what to wear to college? Look up a personal style blog. Want to be in sync with the current trend? Look up a fashion blog that gives out runway reports or follows celebrity fashion.

For me, as a blogger, it is so exciting to add to it all! Every trend that I come across, every new hairdo that I learn, every little opinion that I have about a look or a product, I want to share it with my readers. And it is through my little blog, my personal space, that I can do just that!

So fellow bloggers (and readers), if you too wish to take part in the contest, simply click----> here.

Until next time!

Launch: Lifestyle AW'13 Collection + MTV's Get the Look Season 3

Lifestyle partnered with MTV for the launch of a new season of the channel's Get the Look show at their Phoenix Mills store at Lower Parel. They came up with a fun and engaging activity wherein invitees were to go through Lifestyle's AW '13 collection, pick their favourite pieces to put together a look, get a touch-up at the L'Oreal Hair & Make-up Booth, and head to the Photo Booth to show off their looks in front of the shutterbugs.

What's more? MTV VJ Anusha Dandekar went around going through each look, suggesting what could have been added or avoided, and tagging it to a city- mine was London!

Finally, she picked two of her favourite looks, and the lucky girls won a shopping spree at the Lifestyle store.

Anusha came dressed, chic as always, in an Aztec print skirt, a ruffled top- both from the AW '13 collection at Lifestyle. She kept her look minimally accessorized.

The winning looks were very American- reminded Anusha of NYC and LA respectively.

And now talking of the AW '13 collection at Lifestyle, girls, you're going to LOVE the variety of interesting prints they have to boast of- be it Autumn Florals, Aztec or Animal Print, there's something for everyone! Now go, splurge!

Until next time!

SS 13 by DKNY

I'm in the middle of exams, and I shouldn't get distracted by anything. But. The petite LED on my blackberry kept pulling my attention away from the strong backlight of my tab and my e-notes that I should have been immersed in, and was. Until the LED won, n I picked up my phone, only to find an invite from the PR at DKNY for their SS13 unveiling. Et voila! I swore to put my phone away until I'm prepared enough to take a break and rush to Palladium for the unveiling.

As the trend goes, we received a warm welcome avec le vin et du fromage! Et puis, we stepped on to (literally) go through the collection. "Oh! I've seen this dress", on chatting with the PR I learnt, ah yes! Rihanna was seen wearing it at an event. Also, me being a fan of sheath dresses, spotting 'em made me drooool!!!

On the screen, at the runway...but not inStore / Image Courtesy- beautifullyfierce.blogspot.in

The prints, the colors, the merchandise, the ambiance...I was happy again. How I loved the powdered tints, which were only a handful, the clothes did not really shout out Spring-summer! And I did not see the denim trend in the store
:( Nonetheless, I LOVED them. But what really struck a chord were the bags..the very DKNYish, very stylish bags! You must must must go get one!

Until next time!

Chic recyclers part 4: Temporary alterations

Hey all!!!

The last post was about my all-time fav, DIY's!!! I'm soo in love with it, that I think I'm going to come up with more DIY posts soon!

Ok, so getting to this post, we're going to take a look into Temporary alterations, another chic way of recycling your outfits. We often only alter our garments when we’ve lost weight or in some cases, gained. As a kid, I remember having my school uniforms made to a larger size, and then having it altered to my size, and at the end of each academic year as I would have grown a little, I’d only have to open up a line of temporary stitching on the seams and the hemline. I was both fascinated and convinced by the idea- it saved time (except for the 1st time that it was made) and was more economical. As I grew, I started to use this in various other ways and for various other reasons. I would play with the length of my skirt by merely folding the hemline and fastening it with a slip stitch, or do a couple lines of parallel vertical running stitches with an embroidery thread over my sleeves which would act as a design element. I would also rouche up my sleeves by pulling the threads and tying them into a bow.

Folding up jeans to convert them into capris is common, and one can simply stitch up a fabric with floral print on the inside, such that when folded up, it adds a girly touch to your denims. Here, the key is to be good with basic stitches like slip stitch and running stitch.

Until next time!!!
